How to Create a Learning Experience

This article is designed for facilitators who want to create learning experiences within Beacon, helping them organize and manage educational content effectively.

🧭 Step by Step

Step 1: Ensure You're in the Facilitator Profile

  • Make sure you are logged in as a Facilitator. Check your profile type in the top right corner of your screen — you can toggle between profiles if needed.

Step 2: Open Global Actions

  • On the right side of your screen, select the plus icon in the blue tab to open the Global Actions menu.

Step 3: Select "Create Learning Experience"
  • In the Global Actions menu, select Action Type, then choose Create Learning Experience from the dropdown.

Step 4: Configure Learning Experience Details
  • Complete the fields in the form. Fields marked with * are required:
    • LX Name* — give your learning experience a name. Check with your school for any naming conventions to follow.
    • Category* — select a category. Categories may have specific functions at your school — check with your admin for guidance.
    • LX Code — generated automatically once a category is selected.
    • Join Code (optional) — create a code that learners can use to add the LX to their Beacon.
    • Start Date (optional, recommended) — sets when the LX becomes visible to learners.
    • End Date (optional) — sets when the LX becomes inaccessible.
    • Description (optional) - allows Learners to see what the LX covers
    • Cover Image (optional) - help Learners easily identify your LX
    • Links (optional) - add LX materials for Learners to access
    • Co-Facilitators (optional) — add any co-teachers, special education staff, or admins who need access.
    • Learners — add groups or individual learners to the LX.

Tip: Almost all LX details can be edited after saving, so don't worry if you need to make changes later.


Step 5: Save the Learning Experience
  • Select Save to create your new learning experience.

Q: What is the category field used for?                                                                                                         A: Categories help sort and organize learning experiences. Your school may use them in specific ways — check with your admin for guidance on which category to select.

Q: Can I add learners to a learning experience after it's created? 
A: Yes, you can manage learners at any time by editing the learning experience.

Q: What happens to a learning experience after its end date passes?
A: After the end date passes, the learning experience will be archived and removed from both facilitator and learner active LX views.
